The Lance is a keen combination of immaculate defense and extreme attack power. Its greatshield can defend against even heavy attacks with ease, and the long and powerful Lance can even reach enemies that are not immediately adjacent. Since it simultaneously deals Cut and Impact damage, it is capable of both cutting tails (like other Cut weapons) and knocking out monsters (like a Hammer or Hunting Horn). Most lances are at least partially collapsible for easy transportation
The Lance’s special ability is the Counterattack. As a Full Concentration action, the wielder can wind up the Lance and simultaneously take a defensive pose (similar to a Full Block). Until their next turn, If struck by a melee attack from the front or side, the hunter can immediately follow up with an attack of their own. This takes place after the enemy’s attack, which means it can be interrupted if the hunter is knocked down or becomes incapacitated (but not from simply taking damage). Unlike Full Block and Defensive Combat, the hunter retains full use of their weapon skills for the Counterattack.
A Lance’s greatshield always comes with at least Extra Coverage. The Lance can use stats for Spears.
